ABOUT ROTARY

Rotary Club of New Market, Virginia was officially chartered on April 17, 1927. The Rotary Club of Woodstock, Virginia sponsored New Market.

What is Rotary?

We are 1.2 million neighbors and community leaders who come together to make a difference around the world. Together, we work on the eradication of polio, safe and clean drinking water, maternal and child health issues, disease prevention, peace through understanding, and economic and community development. We accomplish this in a variety of ways, most notably through the donations of our members to the Rotary Foundation. The Foundation then returns funds to the community in the form of grants to do our work. Clubs partner with other clubs for community projects and also work in under-developed countries to give them funds and the tools and resources they need to provide for the projects long-term success.

We meet weekly in the Town of New Market in the Shenvalee. We invite you to join us and catch the spirit of Rotary. Come to several meetings before you make a decision to join and check out our District and Rotary International Web sites for more information. We love our community and our country. We want to make it a better place for us all.

Our members are business and professional people, and other concerned citizens who have an interest in volunteering their time and talents to our causes. In all our dealings, we strive to implement the Four Way Test. This is repeated every week in our membership meeting to keep the ideals of Rotary before us.

the FOUR WAY TEST

Herbert J. Taylor, president, Rotary Club of Chicago, 1939-40 and Rotary International 1954-55, lived from 1893 to 1978. During a business crisis in 1932, he wrote the "Four Way Test," shown above. It was adopted as part of Rotary International in January of 1943.
