At the regular Meeting held January 20, 2010 it was proposed and unanimously agreed that the New Market Rotary Club should donate approximately $1000 for the purchase of a Shelter Box in view of the demand for relief housing in Haiti

At the Board Meeting of the New Market Rotary Club held January 20, 2010, it was agreed to donate $500 towards the raising of a marker depicting all the names of the African Amercans who are buried in the Black Cemetary - also known as Kipps Cemetary, on the Martin Farm just north of the Shenandoah Vallay Academy. The Friends of the Cemetary had raised  about $1100 so far towards the cost of this marker which is estimated to cost about $2000.   

Several years ago, Kyle Linski, son of Tom Linski Jr, was helped by the Rotary Club financially in his Eagle Scout project to clear, and fence and make easy access to this cemetary in which approximately 100 both slave and free blacks are buried

Our newest member Jacqueline (Jackie) Painter was installed  by Assistant Governor Rick Glading at the January 6, 2010 meeting. Her sponsor was Charles Day.  Jaqueline is employed at Farmers & Merchants Bank, where she is the Credit Analyst. She has been employed with Farmers & Merchants for four years and deeply enjoys analytical and quantitative data. This past July she married Michael Painter and they reside in Broadway with their 14 month old boxer. She greatly enjoys the outdoors, snowboarding, fly fishing, motor cycle riding, and the summer time Rebel games!

At the January 6, 2010 meeting  Assistant Governor Rick Glading presented to Past President Kevin Cannon a Certificate of Recognition from Rotary International for the 100% participation by our members for the Polio Plus  EndPolio campaign, completed in the first year of the three year project.

At The December 30, 2009 meeting, President-Elect Tim Palmer announced some of the members who will serve on his Board in the 2010/2011 year as follows:

New Market Rotary Charitable Foundation will sponsor a fundraiser to purchase a new tarp for the New Market Rebel Park, home field of the New Market Rebels. The current tarp was badly damaged by a hail storm early in the 2009 season. New Market Rotary has previously helped fund a pavilion at the Park and other improvements.  Sail date September 18, 2010 from the Port of Baltimore.

The  5 night cruise to Bermuda will be used as a Rotary fund raising activity. We are marking the cruise up $100 per person New Market Rotary plans to use the bulk of the proceeds to assist the local town baseball park to purchase a new tarpaulin for the field at a cost in excess of $5,000. Royal Caribbean will match $50 per cabin for the cruise towards the fund raiser. The current This is an activity supported by New Market Rotary in the past.

Our goal is to book 26 cabins which should raise approx $7,000. 

Funds in excess of that required for the tarp will be allocated to other  Rotary community projects. The Shenandoah Valley Grandstand Managers will help support this fund raising activity. 

Ocean View cabins are $843 balconies are $1,243 and inside cabins are as noted in the flyer, $701. The deposit to assign a cabin is $100 per person. You can guarantee a cabin by a $50 deposit and let the cruise line assign the cabin at a later date and make the full deposit of $200 before May 1, 2010.

The round trip motor coach between Rebel Park and the Port of Baltimore is $65 per person and will leave New Market, September 18.
